Oops, I Single Guy Problems'ed again

Postby Entreri » Sun Jul 16, 2017 9:45 pm

I didn't mean to. Really I didn't.

But see, earlier today I decided to get out of my apartment for a while. So I went to the local farm & ranch supply store. I was thinking maybe I'd buy some .45 bullets for the next time I switch production in the Apocalypse Factory over to .45 ACP. So I walk back to the firearms department. Everyone there knows me on sight; they greet me. I wave, return the greeting, and ask if they have anything I need.

Yes, I know. Silly question, but sometimes I like to fuck with people's minds.

Of course they have things I need. A great many things, and they say as much. I acknowledge this, being the kind, wise and magnanimous soul that I am. Lucky for me, my phone only needed the first few letters of 'magnaminous' and it filled in the rest. Crayons have carbs, you see, and thus they're currently off the table. Huh huh huh....I mean, they're not on the menu....heh heh heh....ok well you know what I'm getting at.

I proceed to examine (read: finger fuck) a bunch of pistols. There was a nice Kimber longslide in 10mm, with a micro red dot optic already mounted (no iron sights tho) and the barrel and slide ported. Ahhh, a weapon after my cold, black heart. But at over $2k, it's not after it that hard.

Up next, a Glock 40, another longslide 10mm. Its too bad I don't care for Glocks. A 10mm with a 6" barrel AND it's a double-stack? But alas, it is also a Glock. I like how dependable Glocks are, and I own two of them, but they're far from being my favorite pistols. Maybe I can convince H&K to do a custom job on my Mk23 and convert it to 10mm....

Ok, I know, you want me to get to the point already.

Well, today I did something that I'm usually loathe to do. No, I didn't try anything with the cutie working the register up front.

I added another caliber to my collection. Which means now I'm going to have to buy ANOTHER set of dies and conversion kit for my press.

You see, they didn't have the .338 Lapua Mag that I want, but they did have a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5mm Creedmoor. I've read and heard a lot of good things about the 6.5 Creed, and I really liked the rifle I was finger fucking.

So I asked about a layaway/making payments, since it was almost $1300 without a scope or scope mount/rings. Like I said, they all know me there, so they're ok with me taking 6 weeks to pay this thing off. While the Friendly Neighborhood Death Merchant is looking up some more info about the ammo they have in stock, I log in to my bank account. Then I grab 3 boxes of ammo, and I tell him thanks for being willing to let me make payments, but I've changed my mind, and I'll just take this all today.

I get home, take the scope off my AR-10 (which I'd previously taken off my M1A...I need more scopes so it can go back on the M1A) and put it on the newest member of the family. Then I add the rail section that Ruger thoughtfully included in the box, and I put my GG&G bipod on (the bipod also went from the M1A to the AR-10...I need more bipods too).

I haven't come up with a name yet. But I haven't named the AR-10's, either, so it's no big deal.

Anyway, hopefully the picture isn't grotesquely ginormous.

EDIT: I never did buy the .45 bullets....

Great minds think alike.

I have the Ruger Precision Rifle in 308.

I was running 45 ACP through the Dillon today until I ran out of primers.
There's a Gun show next weekend so I can pickup some more primers for less than the big box stores.

If you haven't already, subscribe to MidwayUSA's mailing list. They have sales on primers (Free Shipping + No HazMat) fairly often. I'm sitting on quite a few primers, so I haven't needed any lately, but it's always nice to get a case or two when one of those sales is going on. They also have a lot of other sales, sometimes it's even stuff I'm interested in. I was going to buy another 500 rounds of .308, because IMI ammo is on sale today, but then I bought this new beauty instead.

Very nice. 6.5 is one of my favourite calibres. I've not used a creedmoor. But I like the idea of a short action 6.5.

Is 300 savage brass freely available anymore?

I believe you can make 300 savage from 308 brass. Lots of neck trimming. But it can be done. Will probably depend on your chamber and the 308 brass manufacturer on how well the head sizes see eye to eye.

Guys, thought we had a 'no porn' policy on the board. ;)

That is pure gun pron, and shouldn't be here...however it is used by a chaotic evil soul, so we'll let it slide.

Ent, you are going to fucking love the Creedmoor; it's a wonderfully accurate round with a nice, flat trajectory. When I'm doing just straight target shooting, the 6.5 is my go-to.

.300 Savage brass is still widely available. In fact, its my go to for anything east of the Mississippi. If you're looking for a new 10mm you should consider the P220 Elite SAO:

Someone really should do something about this. Women at risk of living life is just unacceptable.
Maybe the platter should be made bigger and more silvery.

Single Guy Problems'ed

Spent part of the day pipe fitting under a friends 1971 Plymouth Barracuda 383, then took a dip in the pool and had some BBQ for dinner. Its a dirty job but someone has to drink that beer before it goes bad sitting the the fridge.
